Forward Brad Marchand signed an eight-year, $49 million contract extension (an average annual value of $6.125 million) with the Boston Bruins on Monday beginning with the 2017-18 season.
Marchand, 28, is entering the final season of a four-year, $18 million contract and was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent. He set NHL career-highs with 37 goals and 61 points in 77 games last season. He has 153 goals and 289 points in seven NHL seasons, all with the Bruins.
There we're rumors sending Marchand to Pittsburgh in the past few days... The reason being he played so well with Sidney Crosby, the media and about 70% of the fans on social media, started yelling Marchand would move. Specially Marchand was in the last year of his current contract. Boston Bruins GM sure killed those rumors today...
